26-Year-Old SKMCH MBBS Student Dies After Cardiac Arrest

Muzaffarpur (The Uttam Hindu): In a tragic incident, Surendra Kumar a 26-year-old second-year MBBS student at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur, passed away late on Friday night, sending shockwaves through the college community. The medical team at the hospital confirmed that Surendra died due to "cardiac arrest."

According to college officials Surendra, a resident of Saharsa suddenly started feeling cold and began vomiting inside his hostel room during the night. His friends attempted to help by turning on the room heater and administering medication after consulting a doctor. Despite their efforts his condition deteriorated and he was rushed to the SKMCH emergency ward. Unfortunately, despite the doctors' best attempts to save him, he could not survive. SKMCH officials revealed that Surendra had taken his second-year medical exam on Friday before returning to his room. However, he soon began experiencing cold sensations, prompting his friends to activate the heater and provide medicine following a doctor's advice. By Friday night, his condition worsened and he was admitted to the hospital where he passed away despite medical intervention.


Upon hearing of his death, SKMCH superintendent Dr. Kumari Vibha and principal Dr. Abha Rani Sinha visited the hospital to investigate the matter. Dr. Sinha stated "Surendra complained of cold and frequent vomiting. His friends mentioned that he had experienced severe chest pain about a month ago. Experts from SKMCH confirmed that he died due to cardiac arrest. His family took his body back home around 3 AM on Saturday." Dr. Sinha also noted that there has been an increase in cases of cardiac arrest among young individuals since the Covid-19 pandemic. She emphasized that appropriate arrangements are made for students residing in hostels during the winter. In another tragic incident on Friday, 30-year-old Sanjay Kumar Rawat an aspirant for the Bihar Police sub-inspector post from Madhubani, collapsed and died while jogging at Manoj Kamalia Stadium in Patna City's Chowk police station area.
