BBMB's Energy Conservation Initiative Engages 19 Lakh Students, Honored at National Ceremony
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): On the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day 2024, a grand function was held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on 14th December 2024, organized by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Government of India. The event was honoured by the presence of the Hon’ble Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, and the Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shri Shripad Yesso Naik.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the acknowledgment of outstanding contributions to energy conservation and awareness. Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Shripad Yesso Naik felicitated the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) for its remarkable efforts in inspiring and mobilizing school children from Punjab, Haryana and UT Chandigarh to actively participate in the National Painting Competition 2024.
BBMB’s initiative engaged an impressive 19.88 lakh students in the School Level Painting Competition, conducted under the aegis of BEE, Ministry of Power. This extraordinary participation highlights BBMB’s unwavering commitment to fostering energy conservation awareness among young minds.
From this vast pool of participants, 300 talented students were shortlisted to compete in the “On-the-Spot State Level Painting Competition,” held at Indradhanush Auditorium, Panchkula, on 27th November 2024. The students’ creative depictions of energy conservation themes showcased a profound understanding of sustainable practices and innovative ideas.
Subsequently, 18 outstanding students (six from each State/UT) were selected to represent Punjab, Haryana, and UT Chandigarh at the National Level Painting Competition, held in New Delhi on 11th December 2024. Among them, Miss Bhavini, a Class VII student from Bhavan Vidyalaya (Senior Wing) School, Chandigarh, and Mr. Pranav Garg, a Class X student from BCM Arya Model Sr. Sec. School, Ludhiana (Punjab), received appreciation prizes for their exceptional contributions at the national level.
The event at Vigyan Bhawan celebrated the collective efforts of students, industries and institutions like BBMB in fostering the crucial cause of energy conservation. It emphasized the pivotal role of youth engagement in creating a sustainable future for India. The recognition conferred upon BBMB by the Ministry of Power is a testament to its steadfast dedication to promoting awareness and actionable steps towards a greener, more energy-efficient nation.
