Twisted Torture in Nursing College: Student’s Private Part Targeted in Shocking Ragging
Kerala (The Uttam Hindu): Incidents of ragging continue to make headlines exposing the cruelty inflicted by senior students on their juniors. One such horrifying case has emerged from Kerala, where three students were subjected to brutal harassment by their seniors. The shocking nature of the incident has left many in disbelief. This disturbing case took place in a nursing college under the jurisdiction of Gandhinagar Police Station in Kottayam, where senior students stripped their juniors and subjected them to extreme physical torment. They hung heavy exercise dumbbells from their private parts, causing excruciating pain. Despite their desperate pleas for mercy the seniors showed no remorse and continued their sadistic actions.
The torment did not end there. The accused further assaulted the victims using compasses and sharp objects, inflicting severe injuries. When the juniors cried out in pain the seniors forcibly applied lotion to their wounds and mouths to silence them. Terrified and injured, the victims managed to escape and later approached the police. The three distressed students filed a complaint at Gandhinagar police station, prompting immediate action. The police arrested three accused students, while the search for the remaining culprits is still underway. Following the FIR and police intervention, the college administration also took strict action, suspending all five accused students. The college principal confirmed that an internal investigation was initiated under the Anti-Ragging Act, while the police continue their probe.
This incident adds to a growing list of ragging-related tragedies in Kerala. In a recent case, a 15-year-old student in Ernakulam took his own life after allegedly facing severe harassment and humiliation at school. His mother later revealed the extent of the bullying on social media. Another case in 2022 from Kannur saw an 11th-grade student brutally assaulted by seniors over the length of his hair with the video of the attack going viral. In a separate tragedy on February 18, 2024, JS Siddharth, a student from Kerala University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences was found hanging in his hostel bathroom. Investigations revealed that he had been beaten by seniors who accused him of misconduct with a female student. These incidents highlight the urgent need for stricter measures to eliminate ragging and ensure the safety of students.
