Teen Leaps from Fifth-Floor Roof After Mom's Mobile Use Scolding

Kolkata(The Uttam Hindu): A Class IX girl student lost her life after jumping from the roof of her fifth-floor apartment in a housing complex at New Barrackpore on Monday morning. The incident reportedly occurred following a controversy over the girl being generally found preoccupied with her smartphone during study time. Now, the police are investigating "Teen Leaps from Fifth-Floor Roof After Mom's Mobile Use Scolding" the case to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to it.At first blush, it would appear that Paroshmita Mazumdar, a Class IX student studying in a well-known English-medium school in Barrackpore Cantonment, had taken her own life after being chided by her mother for abstaining from studies and spending too much time on her mobile.The body has been taken for post-mortem and a case under unnatural death has been registered, said a senior officer of Barrackpore police.

According to local sources, the girl had a misunderstanding with her mother the previous night. The matter for which she was reprimanded is not specified. After this, she stayed in her room and slept. "On Monday morning, her father, Pradip Mazumdar, left for work, her brother for college, and her mother was busy with household work. It was during this time that the girl moved to the roof of their five-storeyed flat and jumped," a close relative of the victim reported. On hearing a thud sound, neighbors and passersby rushed to the scene and found the girl lying in her own pool of blood. She was quickly taken to Barasat District Medical College and Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
