Search operations are on. We have not yet traced the victim. According to our sources, she was seen at a public place a week ago." He said efforts were on to nab the ninth person involved in the attack.

Dharmendra Kalita, the officer-in-charge of Gorchuk police station in Guwahati, received the video on WhatsApp at around 2.30 pm on Friday. The DCP said that they initially arrested three accused from Boragaon area of ​​Guwahati. During interrogation, they also revealed the names of other accused involved in the case. He said, "Based on the information received during interrogation, our officers raided areas like Noonmati and Jalukbari. By morning, seven accused were arrested and two were absconding. By evening, one more accused was arrested."

During interrogation, the accused told the police that on the evening of November 17, the girl had come to the temple with one of the accused for the Raas Mahotsav. "The nine accused, who were in an inebriated condition, gang-raped her and recorded it on camera," the DCP said. He appealed to social media users that if they get the video from any source, then do not send it to anyone. He said, "Sharing this video is a criminal act and we will take action against anyone who shares it."


Locals of Boragaon area said that the temple and its surrounding area have become a hub for alcohol and drug consumption. Some women claimed that they have been targeted by such people in the past as well. A woman said, "Drunk youths often make objectionable comments on women visiting the temple. Elderly women also have to face this. We have complained about this to the police several times. If action had been taken earlier, this incident could have been prevented."
