Painting Work Begins at Jama Masjid in Sambhal, ASI Team and Committee Members Present

Sambhal (The Uttam Hindu): Painting work has started on Sunday morning in Jama Masjid located in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh. Committee members are present along with the team of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Earlier, on Saturday, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) team had reached Jama Masjid with painters but the team returned after staying for some time.

Painting work started in Jama Masjid of Sambhal, committee members also present along with ASI team: On March 12, the High Court had ordered painting and decoration. It was also said that this painting and decoration work will be monitored by ASI. In this sequence, the ASI team reached Jama Masjid on March 13. Along with the outer part, the inside premises were also inspected. The team had seen the places where painting is to be done. Arrangement of painters and laborers has also been done at the local level.

A controversy had arisen due to the posters put up on the back wall of Jama Masjid. The ASI team removed those posters on Saturday. These posters were removed for whitewashing. These parts have also been cleaned. Posters of 74 rioters were put up on the wall. The putting up of these posters was opposed by the head of the Jama Masjid Committee.

Shahi Jama Masjid of Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh is in the news these days. On 24 November last year, riots broke out after the survey of the Mughal era mosque Shahi Jama Masjid. The riots broke out to such an extent that 4 people died. On one hand, in the Sambhal Jama Masjid case, Allahabad High Court has given permission to paint the mosque from outside and decorate it with lights without any tampering. On the other hand, the next hearing in the case will be on 8 April.
