Lucknow (Uttam Hindu News): An unpleasant incident took place in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Tuesday, which raised questions on the dignity of the House. The incident of an MLA spitting in the hall of the House after eating paan masala before the proceedings of the House started forced the Speaker of the Assembly to take strict action.

Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana expressed his deep displeasure over this incident as soon as the proceedings of the House began today. He said in a serious tone that he received information in the morning that a member had spat paan masala in the hall of the House, which he immediately got cleaned.

Speaker Mahana said, this morning I was informed that an honourable member ate paan masala and spat it in the hall of our Vidhan Sabha. I came and got it cleaned. I have seen in the video who did it, but I do not want to insult anyone. He further said that this act is against the decorum of the House and it will not be tolerated at any cost.

Although the Speaker did not make the name of that MLA public, he clearly said that he has identified the guilty member in the video. He said that if the concerned member himself accepts his mistake then it is fine, otherwise he will be forced to call that member publicly.

Speaker Mahana appealed to all the members to maintain the dignity of the House. He said that the Vidhan Sabha represents 403 MLAs and 25 crore people, and it is everyone's collective responsibility to maintain its cleanliness and dignity. He also appealed to other MLAs that if they see any member doing such inappropriate behavior, they should stop them immediately.

The Speaker said in clear words that the House is the center of our dignity and the faith of the people of Uttar Pradesh, and it is the duty of every member to keep it clean and respectable. This incident has sparked a serious debate about the observance of discipline and decorum in the House.
