January 1st Marks a Big Change: WhatsApp Service to End for These Smartphones – Find Out Who’s Affected!
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Meta has announced that WhatsApp will no longer support many Android smartphones running on KitKat OS or older versions starting January 1, 2025. This move is part of the company’s effort to maintain app security and ensure better functionality on newer systems. Android KitKat, released in 2013, has become outdated as most devices now run on newer Android versions. As a result, WhatsApp will no longer provide updates, bug fixes, or security patches for devices running KitKat or older versions. Here’s a list of Android smartphones that will lose support for WhatsApp in the new year:
**Samsung**
- Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini
- Samsung Galaxy S3
- Samsung Galaxy Note 2
- Samsung Galaxy Ace 3
**Motorola**
- Moto G
- Moto RAZR HD
- Moto E 2014
**HTC**
- HTC One X
- HTC One X+
- HTC Desire 500
- HTC Desire 601
**LG**
- LG Optimus G
- LG G2 Mini
- LG L90
- Samsung Galaxy A52 2018
**Sony**
- Sony Xperia Z
- Sony Xperia SP
- Sony Xperia T
- Sony Xperia V
WhatsApp will only work on Android smartphones running version 5.0 or newer and iPhones with iOS 12 or newer. While iPhone users with the 5s, 6, and 6 Plus models will lose access to WhatsApp, they have until May 5, 2025, to upgrade their devices.
