Google Pay Starts Charging Fees on These Payments – Details Inside

Update: 2025-02-20 14:43 GMT

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Google Pay has started charging a convenience fee for payments made via credit and debit cards. The fee applies to transactions such as utility bill payments, ranging from 0.5% to 1% of the transaction amount plus applicable GST. However, payments made directly through UPI-linked bank accounts remain exempt from these charges.

This move aligns Google Pay with other digital payment platforms like PhonePe and Paytm, which have also introduced similar fees for card-based transactions. The decision reflects an industry-wide shift towards monetizing certain digital transactions to cover processing costs.

Google Pay has assured users that they will be notified of the exact convenience fee before completing their transaction ensuring transparency. As digital payment adoption continues to grow such changes are becoming more common to support the financial sustainability of payment platforms.
