Good News for IPL Fans: Captain Set to Make Comeback After Injury

Update: 2025-04-02 12:14 GMT

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has received clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to resume wicketkeeping duties following a period of recovery. Samson had suffered an injury to his right index finger during India's T20I series against England in February. The clearance comes after a thorough assessment of his fitness by the NCA medical team. With this positive development, Samson will return to his full leadership role and resume captaincy from the team's next match against the Punjab Kings on April 5. Samson had initially received clearance to play as a specialist batter for the first few matches of the IPL season. To limit his wicketkeeping duties, the Royals had used the Impact Player rule, with Riyan Parag leading the team in the first three matches.

Rajasthan Royals are currently placed second-last in the points table and are in desperate need of a lift-up. Samson's return to captaincy and wicketkeeping duties is expected to provide a much-needed boost to the team. Samson is Rajasthan Royals' longest-serving captain in the IPL, having led the team in 61 matches since 2021. Under his leadership, the team has won 31 matches and lost 29, reaching the playoffs twice, including a runners-up finish in his first season in charge.
