Eknath Shinde Breaks Silence on Kunal Kamra's Jibe: 'Freedom of Speech Has Limits'
Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde has finally spoken out about comedian Kunal Kamra's objectionable comments, saying that while freedom of speech is important, there should be limits to everything. Shinde compared Kamra's sarcasm to taking a contract to speak against someone, emphasizing that courtesy is essential when criticizing others.
Shinde also addressed the vandalism by Shiv Sainiks at the studio where Kamra's stand-up routine was recorded, stating that others should maintain a certain level of decorum to avoid reactions. However, he didn't justify the vandalism. Kamra, on the other hand, has refused to apologize for his comments, saying that an entertainment venue is not responsible for his comedy. He compared attacking a venue for a comedian's words to overturning a truck carrying tomatoes because of a dislike for butter chicken. The controversy began when Kamra made satirical comments about Shinde's political switch in 2022, which led to Shiv Sena workers vandalizing the studio and Kamra facing legal action.
