New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The future of Indian cricket stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma hangs in the balance following their underwhelming performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Their place in the team now heavily depends on their performance in the upcoming Champions Trophy. According to media reports, while no official decision has been made yet, poor performances in the Champions Trophy could prompt the BCCI to take strict measures that might signal the end of their illustrious careers.

The BCCI recently conducted a comprehensive review of the Australia tour in a meeting that lasted over two hours. Indian captain Rohit Sharma and coach Gautam Gambhir attended the meeting alongside BCCI President Roger Binny and Secretary Devjit Saikia. Discussions centered around the team's shortcomings during the series, particularly the batting lineup's failure to deliver despite its strength. Sources revealed that the meeting aimed to identify issues and devise solutions, with detailed notes taken for further action after the Champions Trophy.

During the meeting, the performance of Rohit and Kohli was a focal point, and it was reported that both players have been urged to put in greater effort on the field. A member involved in the meeting stated that losing a home series indicates deeper problems within the team, prompting the board to seek explanations and possible changes.

When asked about Rohit and Kohli’s status in the team, sources clarified that no immediate decisions have been made. However, the management could consider changes to leadership roles if performances do not improve in the Champions Trophy. A captaincy change might be on the cards should the situation remain unchanged.
