Haryana's New Initiative: Shamlat Land Owners Can Now Get Ownership Rights

Update: 2025-04-25 14:30 GMT

Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): The Haryana government has amended the rules to facilitate the settlement of certain cases related to houses built on Shamlat Deh land. According to the new provisions, individuals who have constructed houses on up to 500 square yards of Shamlat land before March 31, 2004, can become owners by paying one and a half times the collector's rate prevalent at that time.

Conditions for Ownership

To avail this opportunity, the land should not be reserved for important uses such as ponds, pathways, or other public purposes. Additionally, the built-up area should not exceed 500 square yards and the open area should not be more than 25% of the built-up area.

Procedure for Obtaining Ownership

To obtain ownership, individuals need to submit an application to the Gram Panchayat, which will then be considered by the Gram Sabha. After passing a resolution, the proposal will be sent to the Director General of Panchayat Department through the Block Development and Panchayat Officer and the Deputy Commissioner.

Standard Operating Procedure and Online Portal

The Panchayat Department has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to ensure prompt and uniform action on such applications. Furthermore, an online portal is being developed to facilitate the process.

Benefits for Residents

This move is expected to benefit residents who have built houses on Shamlat land and are seeking ownership rights. The government's decision aims to provide clarity and ease the process of obtaining ownership, promoting transparency and efficiency.
