Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police Recover Methamphetamine Worth Rs 60.6 Crores in Mizoram
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Mizoram Police, seized over 20 kilograms of methamphetamine worth Rs 60.627 Crores in Champhai District, Mizoram, on February 28th, 2025. The drugs were recovered from the general area of Crossing Point One, Zokhawthar, after an intelligence tip-off. This marks a significant operation in the fight against drug trafficking in the region.
The methamphetamine tablets, weighing 20.209 kilograms, were reportedly intended for distribution across the country. The seizure highlights the ongoing efforts to curb the illegal flow of drugs, particularly methamphetamine, which is frequently smuggled from Southeast Asia through the porous border areas of Mizoram.
Mizoram, bordering Myanmar, has become a crucial route for illegal drug trade, and this operation is part of the broader strategy to combat the growing drug problem in the northeastern states. The drugs seized could have otherwise fueled a widespread narcotics network, causing severe harm to public health and security.
As law enforcement continues its efforts, the authorities are conducting further investigations to track down the traffickers involved in this operation. The success of this mission demonstrates the critical role played by Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police in safeguarding the region from the growing menace of drug trafficking.
This operation stands as a powerful reminder of the importance of vigilance in border regions. With drug cartels constantly seeking new routes, the vigilance of local authorities is crucial in stopping these harmful substances from reaching communities and preventing further damage.
