Aman Arora appointed Punjab AAP President, replaces Bhagwant Mann
Chandigarh (The Uttam Hindu): Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Aman Arora has been appointed as the new president of the party's Punjab unit, replacing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The announcement was made by Mann himself. Arora, who also serves as the Punjab Minister for New and Renewable Energy, had been a strong contender for the position for some time. The final decision was made during a meeting of the AAP Parliamentary Affairs Committee in Delhi on Friday. His appointment is expected to help the party attract Hindu voters, a demographic currently being courted by the BJP, as Arora is seen as a prominent Hindu face in the party.
Mann, who had held the position of AAP Punjab president since January 2019, recently expressed a desire to step down, citing his responsibilities as the Chief Minister. Prior to this, the party had experimented with a "working president" in Principal Budh Ram, but this arrangement did not prove effective. Arora, a two-time MLA who won the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections by the highest margin, is known for his organizational skills and his ability to connect with party members. His new role will focus on strengthening the party's grassroots presence, especially amid challenges from a resurgent Congress and the BJP's efforts to make inroads into state politics. Considered approachable by both party workers and leaders, Arora faces the crucial task of expanding AAP’s organizational base at the local level.
