Chhattisgarh (The Uttam Hindu): A couple from Kapu village in Chhattisgarh has made headlines for their unconventional wedding ceremony. Instead of following traditional community rituals, they chose to marry by taking an oath on the Indian Constitution. On December 18, the bride, Pratima Lahre, and the groom, Eman Lahre, opted to skip customary practices like the “sath pheras” and “band baaja.” Their decision not to participate in rituals such as the "mangal sutra" and "sindoor" ceremonies surprised many but also gained admiration, including from their own community.

The couple made their vows in front of a portrait of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, pledging to support each other for life.

Eman Lahre explained that the choice was driven by the desire to avoid unnecessary expenses. "This type of marriage saves on extravagant costs," he said, adding that the decision was made with the consent of both families.
