19 Crore Con Game: Trio Arrested for Posing as ED Officers and Scamming Elderly Man
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A case of fraud of Rs 19 crore has come to light from an elderly man living in Greater Kailash area of Delhi. Cyber criminals digitally arrested the elderly man by posing as Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials and withdrew a large amount from his bank account.
According to the police, 65-year-old Arun Kumar was lured into investing online, but he did not make any investment. But the fraudsters found out that he had sufficient funds in his bank account. After this, they contacted Arun Kumar posing as fake ED officials and digitally arrested him.
Police said that the fraudsters threatened Arun Kumar through video calls and obtained all the details of his bank account from him. After this, they withdrew Rs 19 crore using more than 750 bank accounts and blocked Arun Kumar's number. After registering a case in IFSO, the police have arrested three accused from Ahmedabad. The court has sent the accused on five-day police remand. The police is now searching for other members of this gang.
