12 Visa Categories Revoked For Pakistan Nationals - What Are These And By When Do They Have To Leave?
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): India has intensified its visa crackdown on Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people. The government has revoked 12 types of visas issued to Pakistani nationals, requiring them to leave the country by specified deadlines.
Visas Revoked with Immediate Effect
The revoked visas include medical visas, visas on arrival, journalist visas, and SAARC visas. Pakistani citizens holding these visas must leave India by the given deadlines, or they will be treated as overstaying foreign nationals.
Deadlines for Departure
SAARC visa holders: April 26
Medical visa holders: April 29
Other revoked visa holders: April 27
Valid Visas
Diplomatic and official visas issued to Pakistani nationals remain valid for now. However, if a visa holder is expelled, their visa will no longer be valid. Long-term visas (LTV) also remain valid.
Eligibility for Indian Citizenship
Pakistani nationals with valid passports and visas can apply for Indian citizenship under certain categories, including:
Members of minority communities (Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, Christians)
Pakistani women married to Indian nationals
Indian-origin women with Pakistani nationality who are widowed or divorced and have no male family members to support them in Pakistan.
No New Visas to be Issued
The Indian government has announced that no new visas will be issued to Pakistani nationals. This move is seen as a significant escalation in India's response to the Pahalgam attack.
