US alters deportation policy: illegal immigrants to be sent to 3 new countries instead of India

New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News): In a significant development regarding Indian immigrants deported from the United States, such individuals will no longer be sent directly to India. The US has signed an agreement with three Central American countries—Panama, Guatemala and Costa Rica—to handle deportations before final repatriation. This move comes as part of the intensified crackdown on illegal immigration following Donald Trump's return to the presidency.
India, like several other countries, has already received three flights from the US carrying hundreds of illegal immigrants, many of whom were reportedly sent back in handcuffs. Now, under the new agreement, the US will first send deported individuals, including illegal Indian immigrants, to Costa Rica. The Costa Rican government has given its consent for this arrangement and deported individuals will be detained at a temporary center near the Panama border. India has already begun the process of repatriating at least 18,000 illegal immigrants from the US. This shift in deportation policy is expected to impact thousands of migrants, particularly those from Central Asia and India, as they navigate the complexities of international immigration laws.
