Washington (The Uttam Hindu): In July last year, former U.S. President Donald Trump was shot at during a rally held in a field in Butler County, Pennsylvania. The bullet narrowly missed him, grazing his ear. Following the attack, a photo of Trump went viral across the world, in which he is seen clenching his fist and signaling to fight back with strength. That very photo has now been put up in the White House.

What’s notable is that Trump’s painting has replaced the official portrait of former President Barack Obama. Obama’s portrait had been placed near the staircase of the presidential residence in the State Floor’s foyer after its unveiling in 2022. It has now been moved to the opposite wall, where former President George W. Bush’s photo previously hung. Bush’s photo will also be relocated — it will now be placed beside the portrait of his father, George H.W. Bush.

Trump Did Not Host Obama

In 2022, then-President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden hosted former President Obama and his wife Michelle at the White House for the unveiling of his official portrait. In the past, Democrat Bill Clinton hosted Republican George H.W. Bush, and President Bush later hosted Clinton. In 2012, Obama had welcomed George W. Bush and his wife Laura to the White House for the unveiling of Bush’s official portrait. However, Trump, during his first term, did not host Obama for such a ceremony.

The White House Tradition

According to White House tradition, the portraits of the two most recent presidents are displayed in the foyer. The White House shared Trump’s new portrait on its official X (formerly Twitter) account. The image is from the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump survived a deadly assassination attempt. After being grazed by a bullet on his ear, Trump initially sat down, then stood up and raised his fist toward the sky, chanting “Fight, fight, fight!” This image has now become a major symbol in Trump’s campaign for the U.S. presidential election.
