Washington (Uttam Hindu News): US President Donald Trump said that the US is planning to impose reciprocal tariffs on India, China and other countries soon. Trump says that the US will impose tariffs equal to those imposed by those countries on American goods, so that "fairness" is maintained. During PM Modi's recent visit to the US, issues related to trade, defense and tariffs were discussed.

Trump said in a press conference, "We will soon announce reciprocal tariffs. Whatever tariffs they impose on us, we will also impose tariffs on them." He further said that there was a desire to take this step even before the Covid-19 pandemic. Before the bilateral meeting with PM Modi in Washington, Trump made strong comments on India's tariff policy. According to him, doing business in India has become very challenging due to high tariffs, due to which he has also nicknamed India "Tariff King" many times.

Commenting on PM Modi's meeting with Tesla CEO Elon Musk at another press conference, Trump said that although there are business opportunities in the Indian market, heavy tariffs force American companies to set up manufacturing units abroad.
