Trump Drops a Bombshell: No More Automatic U.S. Citizenship for Babies Born on American Soil
Washington (The Uttam Hindu): Recently elected President Donald Trump has announced that he will end birthright citizenship in America as soon as he takes office. This announcement is one of the major promises of his election campaign, which aims to limit immigration into the country and redefine the definition of American citizenship.
Trump believes that the current system is being abused and there should be strict conditions to become a US citizen. He said, citizenship in our country is a privilege, not a right. We must protect our borders and ensure that only qualified individuals become US citizens.
"We're going to end it because it's absurd," he said on NBC's "Meet the Press." Trump believes birth-based citizenship encourages people to enter the US illegally and "birth tourism." He said no one should get US citizenship just by crossing the US border and giving birth to a child. Eric Ruark, research director at “NumbersUSA,” also supported Trump, saying that at least one parent must be a permanent legal resident or U.S. citizen for children to automatically receive citizenship.
