Dakar (The Uttam Hindu) : Mabouba Diagne, Senegal's Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Livestock, officially launched the national livestock vaccination campaign for the 2024-2025 season in a ceremony held in Dahra Djolof. This town is a vital center for livestock in north-central Senegal. Diagne emphasized the significant role livestock plays in the country's economy, noting that it provides livelihoods for millions and contributes to food security and poverty alleviation.

During the launch, Diagne highlighted the progress made in combating animal diseases through a government-funded animal health program. He underscored the critical importance of vaccination in protecting livestock against priority diseases, which is essential for maintaining the health of the sector.

Since 1997, the vaccination campaign has expanded to include private veterinarians, allowing for broader coverage and protection of more animals. Diagne urged all stakeholders, including local authorities and livestock farmers, to collaborate effectively to ensure the campaign's success.
