Washington (The Uttam Hindu): In the ongoing case involving adult film actress Stormy Daniels, there appears to be no relief for Donald Trump. The former president is set to be sentenced on January 10, just ten days before his inauguration on January 20. This marks an unprecedented situation in U.S. history as no sitting or former U.S. president has ever been sentenced before.

The judge in the case has stated that the 78-year-old Trump may appear either personally or virtually for his sentencing. The judge has indicated that he does not intend to impose a jail sentence on Trump. No custody or fines are expected to be imposed during the sentence with the judge suggesting this would be the most practical solution. Trump's spokesperson, Steven Cheung has stated that there will be no punishment in this case, calling it a lawless matter that should never have been brought to court. He further argued that the case should be dismissed immediately as the Constitution demands.

Justice Merchan rejected Trump's proposal to dismiss the case, citing his victory in the presidential election. The judge has also outlined his plan for sentencing. Trump's defense attorneys had argued that the ongoing case during his presidency would impact his ability to serve but the judge dismissed this argument, stating that disregarding the court's decision would undermine the law.
