The police confirmed the arrest on Saturday (local time). According to an official statement from Peel Region Police, officers from the 21 Division Criminal Investigations Bureau and the Strategic Investigation Team (SIT) arrested and charged an additional individual involved in the violent disturbance at the Brampton Mandir. The incident occurred on Sunday, November 3, 2024, during a demonstration at a Mandir on The Gore Road in Brampton. Tensions between opposing groups escalated, leading to physical confrontations and assaults. Peel Regional Police responded to the scene as the situation turned violent.
The statement further revealed that police are investigating multiple offences linked to the demonstration, with many of the incidents, including assaults with flags and sticks, captured on video. One of the suspects identified in the footage is 35-year-old Inderjeet Gosal from Brampton, who was arrested on November 8 and charged with assault with a weapon. He was later released under conditions and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton at a later date. A dedicated Strategic Investigation Team has been formed to investigate the criminal activities during the incidents on November 3 and 4. The police emphasized that complex investigations like these take time and arrests are made as suspects are identified, with no specific order. Investigators are continuing to review hundreds of videos from the demonstrations and are working to identify other individuals involved in the violence, with further arrests expected.
In response to the incident, Chandra Arya, a Member of Parliament in Canada, condemned the attack by Khalistani extremists on Hindu worshippers at the Brampton Hindu Sabha temple. Arya also criticized politicians who mischaracterized the incident as a Hindu-Sikh conflict.
