London (The Uttam Hindu): Unrest continues to escalate in Syria as Israel carried out major airstrikes on the country's coastal regions on Monday. Tartus area, which happens to be a Russian military base, was specifically attacked. Reports say that an explosion of such intensity that caused the ground to shake went on the Richter scale, exactly like an earthquake.

According to the Daily Mail, the multiple deafening explosions in Syria's skies are described as the largest Israeli attack on Syria since 2012. Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirms that Israeli warplanes struck air defense units and missile depots in the area. The explosions triggered secondary explosions inside the depots, exacerbating the damage. A massive flash of light followed by a cloud of smoke is shown in videos posted online.

Other researchers, such as Richard Cordaro, reported that the size of the explosion was monitored by a magnetometer station in Isnik, western Turkey. According to Cordaro, the signal from the explosion was traveling at twice the speed of a normal earthquake, meaning that the attack must have been quite severe.
