India’s Swift Vote Count Earns Elon Musk’s Praise – But California's Delay Raises Eyebrows
New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): Tesla CEO Elon Musk praised India's election system after the counting of votes from two state assembly elections and by-elections was completed in a single day. He also took a dig at the United States, where California has yet to announce voting results. Musk posted on X, stating, “India counted 640 million votes in a day, while California is still counting.” He responded to another post highlighting the same point, commenting, "Sad."
Reports suggest that even two weeks after the presidential election in the U.S., over 300,000 votes in California remain uncounted. California, the most populous state in the U.S. with nearly 39 million residents, saw at least 16 million voters participate in the November 5 election. However, the state is notorious for delays in reporting election results, mainly due to its large size and reliance on mail-in voting. Election officials noted that the process could take weeks, similar to delays seen during the 2020 presidential election. Mail-in ballots require additional verification and processing, making them more time-consuming compared to in-person votes.
This isn't the first time Musk has praised India. Earlier, on October 17, he applauded the Indian government’s decision to allocate satellite broadband spectrum administratively rather than through an auction. Musk expressed his commitment to serving the people of India in his post.
