Indian-Origin Canadians Arrested in $40M Cocaine Bust
Ontario(The Uttam Hindu): Two Canadian citizens of Indian origin, Vanshpreet Singh, 27, and Manpreet Singh, 36, were arrested after the Illinois State Police seized over $40 million worth of cocaine. This occurred near the Iowa state line on Friday after a vehicle inspection in Henry County, where a state trooper said there were "numerous indicators of criminal activity." A search of the Volvo semi-trailer uncovered 1,146 pounds of cocaine, with an estimated street value of more than $40 million.
Both of them, who are from Ontario, Canada, are being charged with several felony charges such as possession of cocaine, intent to deliver, and trafficking. According to Brendan Kelly, Director of the Illinois State Police, their efforts at combating drug trafficking are "helping keep dangerous drugs out of our communities." Vanshpreet and Manpreet Singh are currently being held in Henry County Jail and have not yet had an initial appearance in court.
