Dhaka (The Uttam Hindu): Chinmay Krishna Das a Hindu monk and spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran Jote is scheduled to appear before a Chittagong court on Thursday for a bail hearing in a sedition case. Das who was arrested on November 25 at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka has been in jail since then prompting growing calls for justice.

His bail petition backed by 20 advocates from Dhaka and Chittagong argues that the case against him is false and fabricated. The petition also highlights his ongoing health issues such as diabetes and respiratory problems, suggesting that his detention is unjust. His primary lawyer Ravindra Ghosh had previously been barred from filing an anticipatory bail petition.ISKCON Kolkata has expressed hope for a fair resolution with spokesperson Radharamn Das offering continued support for Chinmay Krishna Das and other religious minorities in Bangladesh. The organization has been holding prayers for their safety and justice.

On December 11 a court in Bangladesh rejected Das's initial bail plea due to procedural issues including the absence of a valid power of attorney and proper legal representation. The situation worsened when one of his lawyers Subhashish Sharma missed a crucial hearing on December 3 due to security concerns.Prosecutor Mofizul Haque Bhuiyan explained that the lack of proper documentation and legal representation hindered earlier proceedings. India has called for a fair and transparent trial urging respect for the legal rights of all involved. Supporters remain hopeful that the court will consider Das's deteriorating health and the procedural irregularities that have hampered the case.
