Rome (The Uttam Hindu): In a groundbreaking move, Italy has introduced a new facility in its prisons, allowing inmates to spend intimate moments with their partners. This decision comes after a court order, leading to the creation of sex rooms in prisons across the country.

The first such facility has been set up in the Terni prison. Inmates who are granted permission for intimate visits will be allowed to stay in the sex room for up to two hours. The room is equipped with a bed and a toilet, and the door must remain open as per the guidelines, allowing prison guards to intervene if necessary.

This decision was prompted by an Italian court ruling, which stated that prisoners should have the right to spend intimate time with their spouses and partners without the presence of guards. Marital visits, similar to the ones introduced in Italy, have already been recognized in several European countries, including France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and Sweden.

The move has sparked discussions on prisoners' rights to personal and intimate freedoms while serving their sentences.
