Etah (The Uttam Hindu): In a tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh's Etah district, a man committed suicide by touching a high-tension wire after a dispute with his wife led her to leave for her parental home. The man, identified as Govind was found burning after coming into contact with the power line, causing flames to erupt, alarming the locals. Upon receiving information, the police arrived at the scene and after considerable effort, the body was retrieved and sent for post-mortem. According to reports, the incident took place on Sunday evening near Christian College, located on Agra Road in the city’s Nagar Kotwali area. Govind climbed a dry tree and touched the high-tension wire, immediately sparking a fire that consumed him.


Local residents, noticing the flames, called the authorities who promptly shut off the power supply. The body was later brought down after efforts by the police and fire brigade, taking almost two hours to complete the operation. It is said that Govind, who had no children of his own had been raising his sister’s daughter. Recently, he had an argument with his wife who threatened to go to her parental home. Govind reportedly told her that if she left, she wouldn’t return alive. His wife had recently gone to Agra and Govind, under stress, took his own life. As the flames erupted, passers-by were startled by the sparks and the subsequent fire. Within moments, the fire intensified, causing parts of Govind’s body to disintegrate while some parts remained stuck to the wires. Local police, alerted by bystanders, arrived at the scene and coordinated the closure of the power supply.


The fire brigade was summoned to control the blaze, after which the body was brought down. The entire operation, which disrupted traffic for nearly two hours ended with the body being taken for further examination. Govind, a 45-year-old man had been working in the metal industry, manufacturing and selling iron items with others in the area near Christian College on Agra Road. The police have confirmed the cause of death as electrocution after coming into contact with a high-tension wire. The body has been sent for post-mortem and investigations into all aspects of the case are ongoing.
