Kolkata (The Uttam Hindu): A woman in her 30s in Kolkata was brutally murdered by her brother-in-law after she rejected his romantic advances. The horrific crime took place in the posh Tollygunge area, where the woman's severed head was found Friday morning in the Regent Park area, concealed in a polythene bag. Locals who discovered the head immediately alerted the police. Further investigation revealed that the rest of the woman's body, dismembered into three parts, was dumped in different locations, including near a pond.

The police traced the crime back to 35-year-old Atiur Rahman Laskar, a construction worker and the woman's brother-in-law. Laskar admitted to killing her after she repeatedly rejected his advances. The victim, who worked as a domestic helper in the same area, had been separated from her husband for two years and had been commuting with Laskar to work daily. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Bidisha Kalita, the woman had started avoiding Laskar and blocked his number, which enraged him.

On Thursday evening, after the victim finished her work, Laskar forced her to accompany him to an under-construction building, where he strangled her, beheaded her, and dismembered her body into three parts. He then disposed of the remains in separate locations. The discovery of the severed head prompted the use of sniffer dogs and a review of nearby CCTV footage. The investigation revealed that the crime had occurred within 12 hours of the head being discovered. Police also recovered evidence from the garbage vat on Graham Road, where the head was initially found. Using the gathered evidence and CCTV footage, authorities tracked down Laskar to his village in Basuldanga, South 24 Parganas district, where he was arrested.
