Kannur(The Uttam Hindu):Kerala police have solved a week-old theft case involving ₹1 crore and 300 sovereigns of gold stolen from the house of a prominent trader in Kannur district. The accused, 30-year-old Vijesh, a welder from the same locality, was taken into custody on Saturday.

The stolen cash and gold ornaments were recovered from under a cot at Vijesh's house. Police cracked the case using CCTV footage and fingerprints collected from the crime scene. CCTV visuals revealed Vijesh returning to the house the day after the theft, raising suspicion about his involvement.

The robbery occurred on November 19 when Ashraf, a rice trader, and his family were attending a wedding in Madurai. Upon their return on November 24, they discovered the theft and filed a police complaint.

Investigators found that the burglars likely entered by gas-cutting the iron grill on the kitchen window. A chisel found inside the house and fingerprints were among the critical evidence. Forensic teams collected additional evidence from the scene, leading to Vijesh’s arrest.
