Invisible luxury: Gurugram’s high-end flats vanish in thick smog as air quality hits dangerous levels
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In Gurugram, luxury flats have become almost invisible due to the dense smog blanketing the area as air quality in Delhi-NCR continues to worsen. Recent photos shared by residents highlight the severity of the situation, especially around premium properties like the Camellias, where flats cost between Rs 60 and Rs 100 crore. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has soared to a hazardous 494, with Gurugram close behind at 469—both in the "severe" category and far beyond the World Health Organization's recommended limits.
A viral video showcasing these luxury flats hidden by smog has sparked widespread reactions on social media. Many users have humorously pointed out the irony of owning exorbitantly priced homes rendered invisible by pollution. One user remarked, “Pollution is a social equaliser,” while another questioned the practicality of investing in such properties amid "poisonous" air, highlighting the disconnect between wealth and environmental quality.
In response to the escalating air quality crisis, the Gurugram district administration has suspended physical classes for students up to the 12th grade until further notice, prioritizing public health. The situation has also fueled online discussions critiquing urban living conditions and calling for urgent government action to tackle pollution and improve air quality
