Thane (The Uttam Hindu): A 29-year-old newly married man from Thane district was severely injured after his father-in-law allegedly threw acid at him following a dispute over their honeymoon destination. The victim, Ibad Atik Falke, has been hospitalized, while the accused, Jaki Gulam Murtaza Khotal (65), is currently on the run, said police officials on Thursday.

According to the FIR, Falke recently married Khotal's daughter and had planned to visit Kashmir for their honeymoon. However, it is reported that he was insisting on taking the girl to a religious site aboard. This led to disagreement between the two. On Wednesday night, after returning home, Falke parked his vehicle near a road. Khotal, who had been waiting for him in his car, allegedly approached Falke and threw acid at him, causing injuries to his face and body.

The police have informed that Khotal reportedly objected to the marriage of his daughter to Falke and desired the end of the relation. Khotal is said to be absconding now. Police are trying hard to track him. Bookings under various sections of IPC like Section 324 that includes voluntary causing of grievous hurt by using acids or such potent poisons has also been made along with the others such as Section 351- criminal intimidation.

Shock waves have been sent throughout the locality at this incident, and the investigating agencies are still investigating the incident. The police assured that proper efforts are being made for apprehending the accused and seeing justice for the victim.
