Family’s Somnath Pilgrimage Ends in Tragedy: 4 Women Killed, 16 Injured in Deadly Van-Truck Collision!
Surendranagar(The Uttam Hindu): Four women tragically lost their lives, and sixteen others were injured in a van-truck collision in Surendranagar, Gujarat, on November 25, 2024. The accident occurred around 10:30 PM near Chotila when a pickup van carrying twenty passengers collided with a truck that had turned right to stop at a roadside hotel.
According to police reports, two women died at the scene of the accident, while two others succumbed to their injuries later in the hospital. The deceased were identified as Magjiben Rethariya (72), Galalben Rethariya (60), Manjuben Rethariya (65), and Gauriben Rethariya (68), all of whom were related and traveling to Somnath to perform ‘pitru tarpan,’ a ritual honoring deceased ancestors.
The injured individuals were taken to Rajkot Civil Hospital for treatment, where they are currently receiving medical care. The incident has raised concerns about road safety and the need for stricter regulations regarding heavy vehicles on highways.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision to determine any potential negligence or violations that may have contributed to this tragic event.
