New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): As devotees celebrated the Chhath Puja festival in Delhi, the Yamuna River remained choked with thick, toxic foam. Despite the pollution, some devotees did not hesitate to take a dip in the contaminated water.
A striking moment was captured on camera when a woman immersed herself in the river, completely covered in the poisonous foam. To everyone’s surprise, she even used the frothy layer to shampoo her hair. Four other devotees soon joined her, and as they bathed in the polluted river, they laughed and joked together. Experts suggest that the foam is a result of high concentrations of untreated sewage and industrial pollutants in the river, leading to the formation of dangerous froth.
