Agra (The Uttam Hindu): The Agra Metro, a new addition to the city’s transportation network, was officially inaugurated, marking a milestone for the residents of Agra. This modern metro system is set to provide an efficient and convenient way for the people of Agra to commute, adding a significant chapter to the city’s infrastructure development. However, shortly after the inauguration, a video surfaced on social media that sparked controversy. The video, posted by an influencer, claimed that Agra Metro was being rented out for private celebrations, specifically a "Haldi ceremony" — a pre-wedding ritual commonly observed in Indian weddings. The influencer's post quickly went viral, suggesting that such celebrations were being allowed on the metro. This raised questions about the proper use of the newly inaugurated metro service and its policies regarding private events.

In response to the claims, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) issued a formal clarification. UPMRC clarified that the event in question was not a "Haldi ceremony," as suggested, but rather a private Basant Panchami-themed party. They emphasized that no kind of wedding celebration or such events are allowed on Agra Metro. The metro, they assured, is strictly for public transport and is not available for private functions or parties. "Agra Metro is meant to serve the commuting needs of the general public and does not permit wedding-related events or any kind of private celebration," a UPMRC spokesperson said in the official statement. This clarification by UPMRC came as an effort to address the confusion surrounding the viral video and ensure that the rules and regulations surrounding the use of Agra Metro are clearly understood by the public. The organization further assured that all guidelines regarding the use of metro services for personal functions would be adhered to, and steps would be taken to prevent any misuse of the facility. With the Agra Metro now operational, the city’s residents can expect a much-needed boost in public transportation. However, UPMRC is committed to ensuring that the metro serves its primary purpose of transportation, and will continue to uphold the standards set for its use.
