Hyderabad (The Uttam Hindu): A tragic case of animal cruelty has emerged from Eddumailaram village in Sangareddy, where 32 dogs were thrown off a 40-foot bridge with their legs and mouths bound. The horrifying incident, reported on January 4, 2025 came to light after volunteers from Citizens for Animals received an anonymous tip about distressing cries near the site. Upon reaching the scene, they discovered the surviving dogs among the deceased some of which were infested with maggots.

The police have initiated an investigation, speaking to local residents and collecting evidence in an effort to identify those responsible for this brutal act. Early findings suggest that the dogs were likely thrown from the bridge after being tied up. Post-mortem examinations have been conducted on the deceased dogs with further tests underway to determine whether the animals were poisoned.

Of the 32 dogs involved in the incident, 21 were found dead and 11 others were rescued but are in critical condition. These surviving dogs have been transferred to a shelter in Nagole, where they are receiving medical care. Animal welfare groups have condemned the incident and are urging authorities to treat it with the seriousness it warrants. The horrific event has sparked widespread outrage among animal lovers and advocacy groups who are calling for immediate action against the perpetrators and stronger animal protection laws. Activists are also emphasizing the need for greater awareness about animal welfare issues within society.
