Saif Ali Khan Attacker Nabbed After 70-Hour Manhunt; Suspect Used Fake Identity
Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked in his Bandra residence early Thursday morning by an intruder who allegedly intended to commit burglary. The accused, identified as 30-year-old Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad, was arrested near Hiranandani Estate in Thane after a 70-hour manhunt. Shahzad, who initially posed as Vijay Das to evade capture, reportedly worked for a housekeeping company and is suspected to be a Bangladeshi national.
The incident occurred around 2 a.m. when the intruder entered the actor's apartment using a fire escape and demanded a ransom of ₹1 crore. During the altercation, Saif Ali Khan sustained six stab wounds including injuries to his neck and spine. He was rushed to Lilavati Hospital for emergency surgery, where a 2.5-inch blade fragment was removed from his spine. Other residents of the household including a nurse and staff member were also injured in the attack but the family managed to escape to safety.
Police investigations revealed the intruder was familiar with the building layout and had scaled an adjacent compound wall to gain access. Security footage captured the suspect in the vicinity before the attack, leading to the formation of 30 police teams to track him down. Another suspect, initially detained in Chhattisgarh was later released when investigators confirmed he was not involved. Saif Ali Khan is now recovering well following the surgery.
