Patiala Police Action: 12 Cops Suspended for Assaulting Army Colonel, Son

Patiala (The Uttam Hindu): The police department has taken major action in the case of assault on an army colonel and his son in Patiala, Punjab. 12 policemen have been suspended in this case. The entire incident of assault was captured on CCTV. The family members also lodged a complaint with the police in this regard. According to the information, the entire dispute was over parking. SSP Nanak Singh while addressing the press conference said that an incident took place outside Rajendra Hospital on the night of 13-14 March. There was a clash between the police and the army colonel and his son. We are very sad about this incident. This incident should not have happened. Such an incident has never happened before. An FIR has been registered in this case. Taking action in this case, 12 policemen have been suspended.
He further said that departmental inquiry has been ordered against all the policemen. The inquiry will be completed in 45 days. He also said that we apologize in the case of the army officer. We respect the army completely. The colonel's wife had told the police in her complaint that her husband Pushpinder Singh Bath and her son Angad Singh were brutally beaten by Police Inspector Harjinder Singh Dhillon, Inspector Harry Boparai and Inspector Roni Singh and about 10 of their policemen with sticks, baseball bats and some sharp weapons. During this, her husband has suffered many injuries. His left hand was broken. While son Angad Singh has a deep injury on the head. Both were admitted to the hospital for treatment. The colonel's wife had also told in the complaint that everything is clear in the footage of the incident spot. After the incident, the statement of the husband and son was recorded very late. But till date no action has been taken by the concerned police station. Despite my repeated requests and visits to Civil Lines, Patiala Police Station, FIR has not been filed yet.
