Mass Casualty Terror Strike in Pahalgam: Over 27 Feared Dead in Jammu & Kashmir

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu)- A major terrorist attack has taken place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. According to sources, more than 27 tourists are reported to have died in this attack. The army has cordoned off the area and started a search operation.
The terrorists opened fire on the tourists in the Baisrang area. PM Modi spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah over the phone regarding the Pahalgam terror attack and directed strict action. Officials in Srinagar said the attack took place in the Baisrang plains, a beautiful but non-motorable place near Pahalgam. A senior official there said, "The terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists, injuring several people. Another official said eight injured were taken to a hospital in Pahalgam. Two persons were later shifted to Srinagar hospital in critical condition.
Shah leaves for Srinagar
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has left for Srinagar to take stock of the security situation in the wake of the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir. Home Ministry sources said in the afternoon that Shah has left for Srinagar from New Delhi in view of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Sources said that some senior officials of the ministry are also going to Srinagar. According to sources, the Home Minister will review the security situation in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in a high-level meeting in Srinagar.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has strongly condemned the cowardly terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Anantnag. The Lieutenant Governor spoke to the DGP and security officials on the terrorist attack. He assured the people that those behind this heinous attack will not be spared. He has also directed the district administration and health officials to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured.
