Kuala Lumpur (The Uttar Hindu): Thanks to the all-round performance of G Trisha (three wickets/44 not out), India defeated South Africa by nine wickets on Sunday to win the Women's Under-19 T20 World Cup title.


Coming to bat in reply to South Africa's 82 runs, the Indian opening pair of G Kamalini and G Trisha made a good start and added 36 runs for the first wicket. On the third ball of the fifth over, Kayla Reneke gave South Africa its first success by dismissing G Kamalini (8). After this, Sanika Chalke, who came to bat, displayed a brilliant game with G Trisha and gave India the victory. There was an unbeaten partnership of 48 runs between the two batsmen. G Trisha played an innings of 44 runs (not out) by hitting eight fours in 33 balls. Sanika Chalke scored 26 runs (not out) by hitting four fours in 22 balls. Sanika Chalke hit the winning four for India on the second ball of the 12th over. India won the match by nine wickets by scoring 84 runs for the loss of one wicket in 12.2 overs.


Earlier today, South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first. South Africa did not have a good start while batting and lost their first wicket of Simon Lawrence (0) at a score of 11, second wicket of Gemma Botha (16) at a score of 20 and then third wicket of Diara Ramlakan (3). Captain Kayla Reneke was out after scoring (7) runs. No South African batsman could survive for long against the Indian bowling attack. Karabo Meso (10) and Faye Cowling (15) were out after scoring runs. Mieke van Voorst played an innings of (23) runs for the team. Four South African batsmen were out at zero. South Africa took the match to the scheduled 20 overs but could score only 82 runs.


For India, G Trisha took three wickets. Parunika Sisodia, Ayushi Shukla and Vaishnavi Sharma got two wickets each. Shabnam MD dismissed one batsman.
