India and Bangladesh Face New Challenges as China Plans World's Largest Hydropower Dam

Tibet (Uttam Hindu News): In a significant move to bolster its presence in Tibet, China has approved plans to construct the world's largest hydropower dam. This ambitious project is part of a broader development strategy focused on the eastern region of Tibet.

According to China Power Construction Corp, the dam will be built on the lower reaches of the Brahmaputra River, known as Yarlung Zangbo in China. However, the project raises concerns for millions in India and Bangladesh, as it could potentially impact downstream water flow and ecosystems.

The dam is expected to generate an unprecedented 300 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, surpassing the current world record held by the Three Gorges Dam, which has a capacity of 88.2 billion kWh. China's state-run Xinhua News Agency highlighted the dam's role in advancing the country’s carbon neutrality goals, boosting industries like engineering, and creating jobs in Tibet.
