New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): On Tuesday, police detained around 700 farmers who were sitting on a protest at the Dalit Prerna Sthal in Noida. Thousands of police officers arrived at the site, clearing the area and forcing the farmers to disperse.

The farmers accused the police of forcibly ending their protest and claimed that since early Tuesday morning, several farmer leaders' homes and routes leading to Dalit Prerna Sthal were blocked by the police, who detained farmers along the way.

According to reports, police began arriving at the homes of farmer leaders early in the morning, and they surrounded the farmers already present at Dalit Prerna Sthal. Many other farmers who were on their way to the site from different routes were also stopped and detained.

Farmer leaders alleged that their protest was being forcibly ended, even though they had given a seven-day deadline to the authorities. Sunil Pradhan, spokesperson for the Bharatiya Kisan Union, explained that the farmers had been protesting for a long time over their demands. When the authorities failed to meet their demands, the farmers planned to march towards Delhi. However, the authorities requested seven more days, during which the farmers decided to hold their protest at Dalit Prerna Sthal. Now, the police have forcibly detained the farmers to end the protest, which may further escalate the situation.
