Prayagraj (The Uttam Hindu): The Allahabad High Court has granted permission to the committee of the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal to paint the mosque’s outer walls. While partially accepting the mosque committee’s plea, the court ruled that the painting work can only be carried out on the exterior walls of the mosque. Additionally, the High Court stated that lighting can be installed on the outer walls, but the work must be done without causing any damage to the structure.

The mosque committee had filed this petition in the Allahabad High Court, seeking permission for the painting work. A single bench of Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal ordered that the work be completed within a week and directed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to oversee the process. The order is based on the argument that beautification of the mosque’s exterior walls can be done, provided there are no structural changes or damage to any historical elements.

Earlier, the Allahabad High Court had denied permission for the mosque’s painting. The Muslim side in the Jama Masjid case had requested the repainting. The mosque committee had filed a petition in the High Court, seeking approval for the painting work. Following this, the High Court had asked the ASI to submit a report on the matter before making a decision.
