New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Assam government has taken a big decision regarding NRC. The state government clarified that applying for NRC is mandatory, and those who have not applied for NRC will not even be given Aadhar card. Himanta Biswa Sarma government (CM Hemant Biswa Sarma) said that if the applicant or his family has not applied for NRC, then all applications for obtaining Aadhar will be rejected. The Chief Minister said that this decision has been taken in the cabinet meeting when people from turmoil Bangladesh are trying to infiltrate.

Aadhar card will not be made for those who do not apply for NRC…, this state government took a big decision: Chief Minister Sarma said, "Assam Police, Tripura Police and BSF have foiled many infiltration attempts in the last two months. This is why infiltration from Bangladesh is a matter of concern for us. We have to strengthen our system and hence the Aadhar mechanism has been made tough. After the cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister said that the General Administration Department in the state government will look after the verification of Aadhar applicants and the Additional District Commissioner in every district will be responsible for this work.

“After the initial application, UIDAI will send it to the state government for verification, and then a circle officer will confirm whether the applicant or his family members have applied for NRC or not,” the CM said. He also clarified that this rule will not apply to central government employees. According to the SOP accepted by the Cabinet, the state government will verify the documents submitted and return them to UIDAI online within 45 days.

According to a report, Chief Minister Himanta had claimed that in four districts of the state, the number of Aadhaar applicants has exceeded the population, on which he had expressed the possibility of fraud. After this matter, he had then said that therefore the state government has decided that along with the Aadhaar application, the NRC application receipt number will also have to be given.
