New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal made a major move ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections by announcing five significant guarantees for auto drivers. These promises include life insurance of Rs 10 lakh and accidental insurance of Rs 5 lakh for drivers, financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh for the marriage of an auto driver’s daughter and Rs 2,500 twice a year for uniforms. Additionally, the Delhi government will bear the coaching expenses of the children of auto drivers. Kejriwal also revealed plans to relaunch the "Poochho" app which helps citizens connect with registered auto drivers.

Kejriwal emphasized that these initiatives would be implemented once the AAP government is re-elected in February. He acknowledged the challenges faced by auto drivers especially when it comes to uniform costs and daughter’s marriage expenses. To address these issues the Delhi government will transfer Rs 2,500 twice a year (during Holi and Diwali) directly to auto drivers’ accounts to cover the cost of uniforms. Additionally, auto drivers will receive Rs 1 lakh as financial assistance for the marriage of their daughters easing their financial burden.

During his visit to the Kondli assembly constituency, Kejriwal had lunch with the family of an auto rickshaw driver, further emphasizing his commitment to the welfare of Delhi's auto drivers. He also assured the public that the "Poochho" app would be revived, providing a valuable platform for people to call registered auto drivers, ensuring safer and more reliable transport options across the city.
