487 Indian Immigrants Face Deportation from America as Order Issued
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu)- After becoming the President of America, Donald Trump is taking strict decisions. After sending 104 Indian immigrants back to India, America has now identified 487 illegal immigrants to be sent to India. Information about 298 of these people has been given.
The central government said it has been informed by US authorities that there are 487 potential Indian nationals who have final deportation orders. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said India has raised the issue of mistreatment of illegal migrants deported from the US earlier this week. A day after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made a detailed statement on the issue in Parliament, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said New Delhi has raised its concerns with Washington about the status of the repatriation of people. "It is a legitimate issue to be raised and I want to assure you that we are in touch with US authorities regarding all these matters," Misri said during a media briefing ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to France and the US next week.
7.25 lakh illegal immigrants in America
According to Pew Research, more than 7 lakh 25 thousand illegal immigrants live in America. Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) had said in November 2024 that so far 20,407 Indians without valid documents have been identified. Out of these, 2,467 Indians were imprisoned in the detention centers of Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE). Out of these, 104 were recently deported to India. Apart from this, there are 17,940 Indians who have not been arrested, but digital trackers (ankle monitors) have been installed in their feet. ICE tracks their location 24 hours a day.
