Partial Solar Eclipse Today: First of the Year, Visible Globally but Not in India

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A partial solar eclipse will occur today, marking the first solar eclipse of the year. This celestial event, which will be visible from various parts of the world, unfortunately won’t be visible from India. Unlike a total solar eclipse where the Sun is completely obscured, a partial eclipse allows part of the Sun to remain visible, forming a crescent shape as the Moon partially covers it.
The partial solar eclipse will take place on March 29, 2025, beginning at approximately 2:20:43 PM IST and ending at 6:13:45 PM IST. The eclipse will also create a rare phenomenon known as a double sunrise. This occurs when the Moon partially blocks the Sun, causing it to appear as though the Sun rises, dims, and then rises again as the Moon moves away. This effect is most striking when the eclipse happens at sunrise, and weather conditions like clouds or light refraction can enhance the illusion.
For those unable to witness the eclipse in person, NASA, the SLOOH Observatory, and possibly ISRO are expected to provide live streams on their social media platforms and YouTube channels. You can also follow live updates and detailed coverage of the event right here on our platform.
